When obtaining the model and serial number only take it  from the machine itself. The information found on either the sales receipt or owners manual is usually not complete.

There are no standards regarding location of the model-serial number label, but the following examples are typical of many manufacturers.

 

 

Refrigerator
2 door (freezer on top)  Left side of interior of refrigerator section or  behind lower crisper drawer (older GE) or behind kick plate, at floor level (older Sears)
2 door (side by side)  Left side of interior of refrigerator section or top of interior of refrigerator section 
1 door 
Left side of interior of refrigerator section or rear of cabinet
Range
standard On cabinet near front leg (pull out utensil drawer to locate) or area around oven door
wall oven
Bottom front of cabinet. Open door to locate
Dishwasher
under counter Inside cabinet near upper rack or edge of door
portable
Inside cabinet near upper rack or rear of cabinet
Washer
top loader Under washer lid or top of console (Maytag) or left bottom edge of cabinet (older GE)
front loader Inner surface of door or rear of cabinet
laundry centre
Underside of washer lid or inner surface of  dryer door

chest Near thermostat. Usually left side near floor or underside of  lid (Sears) or inside on front edge of cabinet (Woods)
